Printing stainless steel metal parts on common 3D printers (FFF): BASF Ultrafuse 17-4 PH filament

Ultrafuse 17-4 PH Filament: Easy and Affordable 3D Printing of Metal Parts

Ultrafuse 17-4 PH is a filament for producing metal components in 17-4 stainless steel on standard FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) printers. This stainless steel can be fully heat treated to achieve high strength and hardness. It is therefore ideal for the petrochemical, aerospace, automotive, and medical industries. Parts printed with our Ultrafuse 17-4 PH metal-polymer composite filament achieve their final properties through a catalytic debinding and sintering process familiar from traditional metal injection molding.

Advantages of BASF Ultrafuse 17-4 PH

  • A simple and inexpensive way to 3D print metal
  • High mechanical strength and hardness
  • Good corrosion resistance
  • Fully hardened for maximum strength
  • Wide selection of post-processing options for green parts
  • Ultrafuse 17-4 PH is compatible with both Bowden and direct drive extruders.

For this material, the manufacturer recommends Magigoo glue for 316L.

Note: BASF Ultrafuse's current filaments were sold under the Innofil3D brand until the end of 2019. The Dutch manufacturer was previously acquired by the German chemicals group BASF. As part of the acquisition, the filaments were renamed and the packaging changed. The printing material itself is still the same high-quality filament as before.
