ThermaX™ PSU [Polysulfone] is a high-temperature amorphous polymer that offers excellent mechanical, thermal and chemical resistance properties.

Polysulfone (PSU) is a high-temperature aromatic sulfone polymer. The PSU has excellent thermal and chemical resistance, making it suitable for demanding applications in automotive, aerospace, electronics, defense, food service, industrial, plumbing, medical, and semiconductor industries.

PSU is a great alternative to ULTEM™ 9085.

Despite its lower cost per kilogram and lower density (which also gives you more filaments per kilogram), it maintains superior thermal properties. Its higher Tg and HDT give it greater strength and stiffness at elevated temperatures.

ThermaX™ PSU benefits include:

  • Sterilization capabilities, including EtO gas, radiation, steam autoclave sterilization, plasma, dry heat, and cold sterilization

  • Highly resistant even to high doses (10 billion) of gamma radiation
  • Resists most common automotive fluids including gasoline, antifreeze, transmission fluids, engine oils, power steering fluid, windshield washer fluid (ESCR, 24 hours, 100°C)
  • Inherently flame retardant with low smoke development and low smoke toxicity
  • Excellent dimensional stability with low creep sensitivity, low and uniform coefficient of thermal expansion, and highly reproducible part-to-part dimensions.

Recommended print settings:

  • Extruder: 350-380°C
  • Bed temperature: 140-160°C
  • Bed preparation: 3DXTECH nanopolymer adhesive and polyimide tape work best for us.
  • Heated room: recommended
  • Supports: ThermaX™ HTS High-Temp Support is specifically designed to work with high-temperature materials like this.
  • Other: No cooling fan and 16mm/s print speed as a starting point.
  • Drying instructions: 120°C for 4 hours.
