ThermaX™ PEKK-A (PolyEtherKetoneKetone) is made using Arkema Kepstan® PEKK [60/40 copolymer] and is one of the world's highest performing materials, while being one of the easiest ultrapolymers to print.
A flagship material in the PAEK family, PEKK has exceptionally good mechanical, thermal, and chemical resistance. Furthermore, it is not only significantly easier to print than PEEK, but is also one of the easiest ultrapolymers to 3D print. Developed in collaboration with Arkema, a leading supplier of ultra-high-performance materials.
The benefits of ThermaX™ PEKK-A include:
- High thermal properties with CUT of 260°C, Tg of 162°C and Tm of 335°C
- Substantially easier to 3D print than PEEK
- Wide processing window from 345-375°C
- Inherently flame resistant (UL94 V-0)
- Low smoke generation
- Excellent mechanical, thermal and chemical resistance
Compare our PEKK-A to Stratasys® Antero™ PEKK
- Both use Arkema's genuine PEKK as the base resin component.
- ThermaX™ PEKK-A is a lower cost and specifically designed for use on low cost, open material 3D printers
- Stratasys® Antero™ is more expensive and requires users to purchase an expensive Fortus® system and an expensive user license
Recommended print settings:
- Extruder: 345-375°C
- Bed temperature: 120-140°C
- Bed preparation: 3DXTECH nanopolymer adhesive or polyimide tape gives us the best results
- Heated chamber: Recommended, heated to 70-150°C if possible
- Supports: ThermaX™ break-away HTS High Temp Support works ideally for complex, high-temperature materials just like this
- Drying instructions: 120°C for 4 hours
3D printed parts to relieve stress:
Parts printed with PEKK can be stress relieved after printing to reduce printing-induced stress and increase the mechanical properties, dimensional stability, and chemical resistance of the printed part. This process does not anneal or induce crystallinity in PEKK-A, as it is a mostly amorphous version of PEKK. If you intend to anneal and induce crystallinity, we recommend using our ThermaX™ PEKK-C filament made with PEKK 70/30 copolymer.
Stress reduction process
- Place your part in a room-temperature oven and raise the temperature to 130°C (266°F), holding it there for 30 minutes per mm of wall thickness. Let it cool completely before handling.
