Descrizione

CarbonX™ PP+CF is made using a specially formulated PP copolymer reinforced with high-quality, high-modulus carbon fiber. This material offers ease of printing, strength and stiffness, excellent dimensional stability, and an outstanding surface finish.

This filament is based on a patent-pending formulation that offers improved thermal properties and low shrinkage/warping compared to competing PP-based compounds.

The spools contain 750g of filament, but due to the very low density of PP+CF, this is the same amount of filament typically found in a 1kg spool of ABS. This allows you to print lightweight and exceptionally stiff parts for medical applications, drones, watercraft, automotive, or any other application that would benefit from a lightweight, stiff, and chemically resistant material.

The advantages of CarbonX™ PP+CF:

  • Excellent resistance against a wide variety of chemicals
  • Low density and weight
  • Easier to print than most flexible materials and suitable for use with virtually any 3D printer
  • It generally does not absorb moisture, does not require drying!
  • High strength and rigidity

Chemical resistance of PP+CF

Since properties can change depending on the printing environment and the geometry and/or surface of the 3D model, it is always necessary to perform your own testing, but polypropylene is known for its chemical resistance to a wide range of environments, including:

  • Acids: acetic, boric, hydrochloric, phosphoric, stearic, sulfuric, uric
  • Bases: Ammonium, Barium, Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium Hydrocides
  • Solvents: acetone, ethanol, MEK, phenol (10%), water

Recommended print settings:

  • Extruder: 220-250°C
  • Bed temperature: 23-60°C
  • Nozzle: We highly recommend a hardened steel nozzle with a minimum diameter of 0.4mm
  • Note: The ideal layer height is 60% of the nozzle diameter. It is recommended not to print layers smaller than 0.2 mm with carbon fiber-reinforced filaments.
  • Bed Prep: Magigoo Bed Prep gives us the best results
  • Heated room: not required
  • Backings: AquaTek™ Water Soluble X1 USM Universal Backing Material is one of the few materials that can successfully form a strong, temporary bond for
  • support. Polypropylene is notorious for being difficult to support and the X1 USM is ideal for the job
  • Drying instructions: 4+ hours at 65°C

Abrasive material

This material is particularly abrasive among 3D printing filaments. Users may find that standard brass nozzles wear out very quickly compared to standard nozzles. If worn, the nozzle diameter will expand inconsistently, and the printer will experience extrusion issues.

Use hardened steel nozzles with this filament to maximize head life and the quality of your prints!
For this reason, it is highly recommended to print this material through a hardened steel nozzle rather than a softer metal. Hardened steel nozzles are often inexpensive and easily installed, depending on the printer manufacturer's instructions.
